Currently enrolled graduate or undergraduate students are eligible to apply and will be chosen from a nationally competitive selection process to serve as Colleen Toohey Porter Apprentices for ONE THEATRE WORLD 2017. The Apprentice Program is named in remembrance and celebration of Colleen Toohey Porter, former Theatre for Young Audiences/USA Board Member and Vice President of Community Engagement & Education at PlayhouseSquare in Cleveland, Ohio. Colleen was a strong believer in supporting new voices in the field of Performances for Young Audiences.
Apprentices will work alongside the Theatre for Young Audiences/USA board and staff to produce this dynamic gathering. Depending on the Apprentice’s qualifications and interests, duties will include assisting with conference sessions and festival shows, local logistics, staffing the information table and registration desk, and providing general administrative support. Apprentices will be fully integrated into the event as participants. Apprentices must possess maturity, outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills, great attention to detail, and demonstrate a commitment to the field of theatre for young audiences.
Colleen Toohey Porter Apprentices will begin in the days leading up to the event (exact schedule TBD). Theatre for Young Audiences/USA will provide the Apprentice with one complimentary OTW registration, a one year individual student membership in Theatre for Young Audiences/USA, and shared housing near Berkeley Repertory Theatre for the duration of the Apprentice’s time in the Bay Area.
